I’ve never been a great village cricketer, getting invited as much for my prowess drinking beer in the pub afterwards as talent with a bat.
Having spent several hours with a bowling machine at Writtle Cricket Centre though, my skills with a bat are rivalling those with a pint!
Jack Thorogood, Chelmsford
Writtle Cricket Centre was opened in 2007 at a ceremony hosted by Nasser Hussain, then England cricket team stalwart. We built the Cricket Centre because there were so few local indoor nets good enough to allow meaningful practice.
To practice cricket properly one needs nets with long run-ups, a surface with even bounce and excellent lighting. These often aren’t present at multi-use sports halls so we set up Writtle Cricket Centre to provide these conditions.
We now provide practice lanes to a wide range of local club and village sides and through our partner’s top quality coaching to budding cricketers from throughout Essex.
From 2010 Writtle Cricket Centre also became home of The Sidearm cricket practice aid www.sidearm-cricket.com. Now used by all the world’s top teams, the idea sprang from watching people practising in the centre and thinking of this simple way to allow them to face more and better deliveries during their sessions.
